Other Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Revere's Commission on Disabilities heard Revere Police Captain Malone pitch a new "CARE Wagon" outreach vehicle and expanded behavioral-health and school programs. Malone, a 32-year department veteran, said the vehicle, backed by Police Chief Levita and Mayor Keefe, will bring comfort dogs Charlie and Lola plus giveaways to community events. He said the department's clinician program, currently staffed two eight-hour shifts weekly, will expand, and credited Officer Vecchia with case follow-up.
Vice Chair Pauline Perno pressed Malone on crosswalk parking, sidewalk scooter use and the state's blue envelope program for autistic drivers, saying "For these kids on scooters flying on these sidewalks" is a growing hazard. Malone said the department distributed 300 helmets last year and fields roughly 100 calls for service daily. The commission also reported 115 participants at All Abilities Day, with 10 to 12 accessible water wheelchairs all in simultaneous use.
