Winthrop committee studying two shuttered firehouses finds the town has no maintenance records for either building. Charles Newman told the panel, "we do not have records with facilities maintenance or any of the firehouses," after checking with the fire chief and station personnel. Members voted 4-0 with one abstention to approve minutes from their June 24 organizing meeting, then set a goal of a public hearing before year's end and a formal report to the Town Council by June 1.
The committee plans a joint walk-through of the Pauline Street and Shirley Street stations with Fire Chief Steve Calandra, and will use its October 8 meeting to gather firsthand accounts from longtime tradesmen who worked in the buildings. No dollar figures were discussed, and members stressed the panel will only recommend options, not decide the buildings' fate.
