Other Committee · Meeting of August 27, 2026

WINTHROP — The Winthrop Rules and Ordinance Committee voted 3-0 to recommend repealing the town's taxi fare ordinances while leaving its own fate unresolved. Councilors Romano, Dimes and Millar unanimously backed sending ordinances 5.28.130 and 5.28.140 to the full council, with Millar saying her "only fear" was the effect on "senior citizens of town" who rely on set fares. Separately, the committee took no vote on a standing motion to dissolve itself; Councilor Dimes read a statement opposing dissolution, and resident Mike Packett told the panel that eliminating it mid-assignment "creates an appearance that the process itself is being manipulated." A small commercial vehicle parking sticker pilot, priced at $25 in draft form, also stalled without a positive recommendation pending a town parking study.

The committee separately worked on a rewrite of its decorum rule, Rule 11.
