REVERE — The Revere Parks and Recreation Commission discussed a proposal to build a boardwalk linking the Northern Strand Trail to Gibson Park through the Rumney Marsh. Commissioner Shannon Bianchi, who is leading a newly formed Parks Audit Subcommittee, presented maps showing the route would cross land largely owned by National Grid and cited page 72 of the city's June 2025 Walk Bike and Roll Plan, which flags the project will likely require state wetlands permitting. Bianchi floated using fill from a failed 1960s-era Interstate 95 extension in Lynn to restore flood-prone areas near Oak Island Park and a site she calls Diamond Creek, and suggested an "educational research overlay district" to attract university funding, citing Northeastern University's marine biology program.
Commissioner Michael Hanna-Hoss called the idea a way for "Revere Parks and Recreation" to "expand into this passive world." No votes were taken on the project; the commission set its next meeting for December 2 via Zoom.
