Traffic Panel Votes to Make Harris Street One-Way
Revere's Traffic Commission voted to make Harris Street one-way from Winthrop Avenue to Beach Street, ending a years-long pilot debate.
Other Committee · Meeting of August 20, 2026
Revere's Traffic Commission voted to make Harris Street one-way from Winthrop Avenue to Beach Street, ending a years-long pilot debate. Julie DeMauro of the Department of Planning and Community Development presented the option after residents, including Larry Smith of 87 Sewell Street and Daniel Montero of 1 Bixby Street, said cut-through speeding made the narrower neighborhood streets unsafe. The commission also approved a third stop sign at Sewell and Bixby streets and shortened new school-lot overnight parking restrictions to 6 a.m.-4 p.m.
A planned "slip lane" near the intersection is now under contract to start Sept. 8 after delays tied to MassDOT and National Grid work. Mayor Patrick Keefe's proposal to cap residential parking permits at four per address was tabled; the parking department said a data review meant to show "one-third" of properties abusing permits instead found roughly 280 of 15,000 properties affected, with "inconsistencies" still unresolved.
