Boston Rushes Downtown Repaving Before First FIFA World Cup Match This Summer

At a Thursday hearing on Docket 0515, Chair Ed Flynn and Councilor John FitzGerald heard from Chief of Streets Nick Gove, who reported an 18-hour average resolution time for pothole cases and said this winter's more than 60 inches of snow and a 13 percent increase in freeze-thaw cycles drove a sharp spike in March complaints. Of 2026 pothole cases to date, 74 percent have been closed by district crews, with the remainder referred to utility or engineering teams. Congress Street and State Street have been milled and paving is set to begin the weekend of May 10, weather permitting, ahead of the city's first FIFA World Cup match.
