WINTHROP --

HIGH SCHOOL -- The School Committee, meeting Oct. 19, announced details of the Winthrop High School 2026 Hall of Fame induction ceremony, set for Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Winthrop Lodge of the Elks. Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner at 5:37 p.m. and the induction ceremony beginning at 7:15 p.m. The inductee class includes Jason Calla (Class of 1966), Amanda Cortez (2012), Frank Damaco (1970), Benny Risione (2008), James Bucillo (2007), Kim Wessling (1977) and Keith Welsh (1976). Two additional honorees were chosen for special contributions: former head baseball coach Barry Rosen and the late Peter Finn, a former superintendent of schools. Tickets can be purchased at DeGregorio's insurance company on Hagman Road or by calling 617-438-9285.

The committee also recognized September's high school athletes of the month: Nathan Previty for football, Michaela Hurt for volleyball and Segan Turnip for soccer.

In other athletics business, the committee reviewed revised job descriptions for stipended athletic positions, including director of athletic facilities, who oversees Miller Field and other town parks used by school teams; a game field administrator responsible for field maintenance, scheduling and supply orders; and a director of athletic operations, who handles field scheduling and larger maintenance projects. Superintendent officials said Athletic Director Mark DeGregorio helped narrow the descriptions, which had previously overlapped, as part of ongoing contract-related stipend revisions expected to be detailed at a future meeting.
