Finance Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Winthrop Finance Committee backs final $1.5 million piece of a $3 million water main fix. Meeting September 8, the committee voted unanimously to recommend a general obligation bond covering the second half of funding for Winthrop Street water main replacement between McGee's Corner and Metcalf Square, matching $1.5 million already approved through an MWRA program. Director Kelley said the aging pipe has "a lot of tuberculosis inside" and a long history of breaks and poor flow.
A finance staffer identified only as Robbie said the bond would add about 33 cents to water bills starting in fiscal year 2028, against a current base rate of roughly $27 and change, raising average bills "a little less than 1 percent." Councilor Tassaneri was absent; Councilors Reardon, Dime and Swope took part, with Reardon making the motion that passed on a unanimous voice vote.
