Boston Council Committee Advances $5.85 Million for Six School Design Projects

BOSTON — July 15, 2026 — Boston City Council committee advances $5.85 million for six school design projects, including Madison Park. The Committee on Ways and Means, chaired by District 6 Councillor Ben Weber, held a July 15 virtual hearing on Docket 1311, a $5 million appropriation for a feasibility study and schematic design for Madison Park Technical Vocational High School at 75 Malcolm X Boulevard in Roxbury, and Docket 1312, an $850,000 appropriation for window, door, and roof design work at five schools under the Massachusetts School Building Authority's 2025 Accelerated Repair Program. Brian McLaughlin, Senior Project Manager for the Public Facilities Department, told the committee Boston has 57 MSBA projects in progress reflecting $696 million in construction costs and an estimated $263 million in reimbursement. Del Stanislaus, Chief of Capital Planning for Boston Public Schools, said Madison Park's eligibility period with the MSBA began July 1, 2026, and that a professional cost estimate for the project is not expected until late 2028, with construction targeted for winter 2030 and completion for 2033. Gregory Maynard of the Boston Policy Institute testified that the city's current five-year capital budget allocates only $100 million for Madison Park against a $700 million project estimate, calling the gap "concerning." Weber said he plans to bring both dockets to a full council vote the following week.
