City Council 2026-09-21 1000 · Meeting of September 21, 2026

Boston council committee clears path for digital equity and school HVAC funding ahead of Wednesday vote. Chaired by City Councilor Edward M. Flynn, the Committee on City Services heard three dockets: a $20,930 El Centro IT fellowship grant, a $225,125.11 federal-to-state digital equity partnership grant, and a donated gift of 43 HVAC mini-splits valued at $84,210.

Department of Innovation and Technology staff said a related fund has served more than 11,000 residents with $1.4 million across 36 organizations. Councilor Miniard Culpepper linked the HVAC units to students using "wet paper towels" to cope with heat last summer, while Council President Liz Breadon pressed on efficiency, quipping, "you don't look the gift horse in the mouth." Staff also previewed a separate $1.3 million Boston Housing Authority internet project for West Broadway and Archdale. No votes were taken; Flynn said he plans a full Council vote Wednesday.
