City Council · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Boston Council shifts $47.3 million in CPA funds, then overturns the council president's own committee pick. Councilor Enrique J. Pepén won a 13-0 vote reallocating $7,677,857 in unused Community Preservation Act money into a combined $47,265,655 FY27 appropriation, despite Councilor Edward M. Flynn's objection that "it is our obligation to know exactly how every cent is spent." Bisexual Resource Center board member Ayanna Peoples asked the council for "at least $15,000" in sustained funding, saying bi-plus groups get roughly 1% of LGBTQ-plus dollars nationally. Councilor Sharon Durkan later won a rare 10-3 vote overturning Council President Liz Breadon's committee referral on a stretch-energy-code hearing, moving it to Planning, Development and Transportation.
The council also unanimously backed Boston Medical Center's resident physicians in their contract fight and, on a 9-1 vote, endorsed Gov. Maura Healey's two-month gas-tax suspension, with Durkan casting the lone no vote.
