Boston's Zoning Board of Appeal approved a six-unit South Boston building despite opposition from six abutters. The board voted 6-0, with the chair concurring, to approve a four-story building at 350 Athens Street after attorney Ryan Spitz's revised plan cut required parking from nine spaces to six, a change abutter Chris Lausanne said "appears to solve one issue by creating another." A representative of Councilor Ed Flynn's office backed the project but said the city "went against its own zoning" by recommending the parking cut. South Boston Action Council director Patricia Wright and abutters Greg Caldez and Lisa Morgan testified in opposition, citing size, lost light and a narrow street.
The board also approved a modification raising an East Boston affordable-housing project from 57 to 62 units and a 41,000-square-foot Dorchester Avenue boutique-inn project backed by 63 letters of support.
