Boston PIC Continues All Four Development Petitions to January 29 Hearing

BOSTON — January 15, 2026 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission continued all four development petitions heard at its January 15 meeting to a January 29 public hearing, with no final votes taken. The largest matter before the commission was a four-petition package from Suffolk Construction covering its estimated $30 million renovation of 100 Magazine Street in Roxbury's New Market District, which would convert a warehouse building into an artificial intelligence and technology research facility and includes a pedestrian easement of approximately 2,124 square feet, sidewalk widening along Magazine Street from seven to ten feet, a building-facade projection license, and the abandonment of Farnham Street, a 40-foot-wide private way. Pat Brophy, Suffolk's Vice President of State and Local Government Affairs, told the commission the project "will be the epicenter of artificial intelligence in the built environment." The commission also heard from Eversource Energy on a grant of location to install a cathodic protection anode bed under Hawkins Street, from developer GBW on specific repairs for a two-building mixed-use project at 1188-1208 Bennington Street in East Boston, and from attorney George Maranci representing 726 East 8th Street, LLC on a 21-unit South Boston residential project requiring sidewalk, ramp, and curb improvements at 27 Farragut Road. Boston Water and Sewer member Denise Devlin noted her department was still confirming whether any services connect off the water main at the Suffolk site, and Disabilities Commission member Carol Leung requested accessible-ramp compliance verification at the Allerton and Magazine Street intersection before the January 29 vote.
