Boston Council Committee Advances $9.5 Million for School Window and Roof Repairs

BOSTON — February 9, 2026 — Boston Council committee advances $9.5 million for window, door, and roof work at four public schools. The City Council Committee on Ways and Means, chaired by District 6 Councillor Benjamin Weber, on February 9 moved two loan orders toward a full council vote: Docket 0128, authorizing $6.5 million for window and door replacement at the Edward Everett Elementary School and the Richard J. Murphy K-8 School, and Docket 0129, authorizing $3 million for roof replacement at the Thomas J. Kenney Elementary School and the Hugh Rowe O'Donnell Elementary School. Both are part of the Massachusetts School Building Authority's Accelerated Repair Program, which has returned just over $240 million in reimbursements to Boston across $655 million in construction costs to date. Carlton Jones, Director of the Public Facilities Department, and Senior Project Manager Brian McLaughlin told councillors the MSBA board approved all four schools on December 12, 2025, starting a 90-day clock for the city to appropriate funds, with construction targeted for summer 2027. First and second council readings are scheduled for February 11 and February 25.
