Board of Health · Meeting of August 27, 2026
Revere Board of Health approved enforcement steps for a new statewide kratom ban and cleared two temporary body-art licenses. Director of Public Health Lauren Buck told the board a Massachusetts Department of Public Health emergency order took effect August 13, 2026, designating kratom a Schedule I substance, aligning with Revere's own ordinance passed in June. Buck said retailers must clear kratom products and signage by close of business August 31, with Revere Inspectional Services starting spot checks September 1; violations draw a warning first, then fines "up to $300" per day.
The board, chaired by Dr. Drew Bunker with members Vivian Catano and Kathleen Savage, also approved June minutes and two licenses for a September 12 temporary body-art pop-up at 249 Broadway for practitioner Jolini Clark. Buck's report also flagged a jalapeno pepper recall tied to 400 illnesses across 32 states.
