BOSTON — Mayor Walsh rallies international anti-trafficking summit in Boston, pledges expanded police training. Speaking July 22 to delegates from South America, Sweden, Germany, France, and other countries, Mayor Marty Walsh called commercial sexual exploitation "the most important" issue before the city and announced that Captain Theresa Comiskey will lead the Boston Police Department's Family Justice Unit, with a goal of training all 2,100 to 2,200 officers to treat trafficking as gender-based violence. Walsh credited Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins, Attorney General Maura Healey, and District Attorney Rachel Rawlings as partners, and cited a coalition that has held online-trafficking hackathons and pushed zero-tolerance workplace policies.

"Women being trafficked are not criminals," Walsh told the gathering. "They're victims."
