Tynan Leads Leahy-Halloran at Half in 2021 BNBL Girls 18-and-Under Opener

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Tynan held a five-point lead over Leahy-Halloran at the midpoint of the first half in a girls' 18-and-under Boston Neighborhood Basketball League game at the Tynan Community Center in South Boston. The 2021 BNBL girls' division features just five teams playing out of a single site — the only location hosting 18-and-under girls' basketball in the city that summer — with both squads carrying only seven of their typical 12-to-14 players due to vacations and summer school. Mariah Washington opened the scoring for Tynan with a three-pointer and an offensive rebound, while Mary Kate Hart added a corner three off an extra pass from Kaitlyn Fitzgerald to push the Tynan lead to seven before Leahy-Halloran got on the board. Broadcaster Seth Orensky described the Tynan program as "gritty" and "scrappy" despite an 0-3 record entering the game, noting the team had previously reached a BNBL championship game under the guidance of Allison Baker.
