Trustees of Reservations Celebrate $2 Million Federal Award for Piers Park 3 in East Boston

BOSTON — July 20, 2026 — Boston officials celebrate $2 million federal grant for climate-resilient Piers Park 3 in East Boston. The Trustees of Reservations announced the congressionally directed award — secured jointly by U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley — at a July 20 event at the existing award-winning Piers Park in East Boston. John Judge of the Trustees said the campaign has reached approximately $30 million of a $50 million total goal, with $40 million earmarked for construction and $10 million for a long-term endowment. Once completed, Piers Park 1, 2, and 3 will combine for nearly 15 acres of waterfront open space in the neighborhood. "A vision without funding is a hallucination," said Senator Markey, describing the award as essential to advancing the project. The park is designed to buffer East Boston from tidal flooding and sea-level rise and is intended to be among the first climate-resilient parks of its size in Boston.
