Trustees of Reservations Announce $2 Million Federal Boost for East Boston Piers Park 3

BOSTON — July 19, 2026 — Federal lawmakers and Boston officials celebrated a $2 million congressional earmark for Piers Park Phase 3, a planned climate-resilient waterfront park on an abandoned industrial pier in East Boston. The funds, included in a federal appropriations bill signed by President Biden, were secured jointly by U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who said the delegation delivered roughly $8 million total in community project funding for the Massachusetts 7th district this cycle. John Judge of the Trustees of Reservations, which is leading the project in partnership with Massport, said the organization has raised approximately $30 million of a $50 million goal — $40 million for construction and $10 million for a long-term endowment. Mayor Michelle Wu cited sea-level projections of at least nine inches of rise near Boston in the next decade, calling the park critical climate infrastructure. When complete, Piers Parks 1, 2, and 3 will together create nearly 15 acres of public waterfront open space in East Boston.
