Licensing Commission · Meeting of September 10, 2026

CHELSEA — The Chelsea Licensing Commission voted unanimously to continue a petroleum storage license application for a Washington Avenue gas station to October 8 after finding the business has operated for months without an occupancy permit. Director of Inspectional Services Mike McAteer told commissioners the Chelsea SPI LLC station at 571 Washington Avenue, which took over the former "Pezzy's" station in late May, still needs an electrical permit, a sign permit and sign-off from the fire department and DPW. Company representative Majid Bugazia, who said the firm operates 21 other locations, called it "more of compliance.

We need to be compliant." Commissioner Marnie MacAlpine said the commission lacked documentation to decide: "How are we supposed to make a good decision if we don't have all the facts presented with us?" Commissioners said the station must have its occupancy permit finalized by the October 8 meeting or face a shutdown.
