Mayor Janey Joins Ribbon Cutting as Financial District Sandwich Bar Fumami Reopens
BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Mayor Kim Janey and State Rep. Aaron Michael Woods celebrated the grand reopening of Fumami, an Asian sandwich bar in Boston's Financial District, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 4, 2021, following a roughly 17-month pandemic closure. Owner Michael, who launched the scratch-cooked breakfast and lunch spot in July 2010, was presented with a formal citation from House Speaker Ron Mariano recognizing the reopening. Janey confirmed the city has provided Fumami $6,500 in direct support and announced new recruitment and retention bonuses for the restaurant industry, an outgrowth of a mayoral roundtable with restaurant owners. Bob Lutz, executive director of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, offered a sobering counterpoint: "Recovery is not weeks away. It's not months away. It's likely years away." Oxford Properties, the building's landlord, was credited by the owner as essential to making the reopening financially possible.
