King Boston Presents $1 Million Gift to Twelfth Baptist Church at Roxbury Ceremony

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — King Boston announces $1 million gift to Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury. The nonprofit, which is developing a public monument to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King in Boston, presented the check at a ceremony hosted by senior pastor Reverend Willie Broderick and attended by Governor Charlie Baker, Mayor Kim Janey, District Attorney Rachel Rollins, and Sheriff Steve Tompkins. Executive Director Amari Parris Jeffries framed the gift as a continuation of King's own practice of donating the entirety of his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize — $54,134 — to civil rights causes. The church currently feeds more than 200 families per week through its food pantry and has vaccinated more than 2,400 residents. King Boston also announced the formation of the 1965 Freedom Plaza Committee, to be led by LaMarche Frazier and City Councilor Tito Jackson, which will nominate 65 Boston civil rights figures for commemoration alongside the Kings in a planned public plaza.
