Jeremiah Burke Wins 2022 Boys Boston City Basketball Championship Over Latin Academy
BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Jeremiah Burke defeats Latin Academy 60-45 to claim the 2022 Boys Boston City League Basketball Championship. The Bulldogs, led by sophomore Ramsey Checo's 26 points and MVP honors, jumped to an 18-3 lead after the first quarter and never trailed, holding the defending champion Dragons to 12 points in the entire first half at the Matadome at Madison Park High School in Roxbury. Sophomore center Nakeem Singleton added eight points and 11 rebounds while freshman point guard Jassad Fenton distributed eight assists. Head coach Shawn Ryan, earning his first city title at Burke, told sideline reporter Milton Posner that the team "came together early — earlier than expected because we were so young," and that the BCL championship carries its own weight beyond the program's 2020 Division III state title: "The city is a big deal. So we kind of put our mark on the city as well." Latin Academy's Osman Aiden led the Dragons with 12 points, and senior Osasu Wogarin — who had posted 18 points and 17 rebounds in the semifinal — finished with 11 rebounds in what was his third straight city championship game appearance.
