Hyde Park Intersection Dedicated as Mr. Higgins Square to Honor Veteran
BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Hyde Park intersection dedicated as Mr. Higgins Square in honor of veteran and longtime resident. The corner of Brayburn Road and Brayward Street was officially designated "Mr. Higgins Square" at a July 22 community ceremony organized through the City of Boston's Veterans Services office, following a request by Mrs. Higgins to a city official identified as Rob. The designation — a "veteran square" under the city's dual-track memorial program — required submission of a DD-214 and other paperwork, with Commissioner Santiago and John Allison of the Veterans Services office credited with guiding the family through the process. Steven Sauer, assistant liaison of Rolling Thunder's Hyde Park chapter, spoke on behalf of veterans, telling the crowd that "it's a fact that he provided our freedom for us to do what we do to this current day." A family member at the unveiling told neighbors: "My dad loves you guys and we miss him terribly."
