Dearborn STEM Academy Seniors Receive Automatic BFIT College Acceptance Letters

BOSTON — July 19, 2026 — Every Dearborn STEM Academy senior in Roxbury received an automatic acceptance letter to Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology on July 19, completing a pre-kindergarten through associate's degree corridor in the Nubian Square neighborhood. Dr. Aisha Francis, president and CEO of BFIT, delivered the news directly to roughly 50 seniors at a ceremony also attended by Mayor Michelle Wu and State Representatives Liz Miranda and Chia-Sei Tyler. Nicole Obie, president and CEO of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, announced that BECMA is awarding a $25,000 grant to BFIT to support Dearborn scholars, with donor contributions bringing the total scholarship pool to more than $100,000. The partnership was co-developed with Dearborn Principal Darlene Marcano and Jesse Solomon of Boston Plan for Excellence, which has operated the school as part of a neighborhood pathway anchored by the nearby Dudley Street School.
