BOSTON — Cohasset Skippers defeat South Boston Knights 47-40 in 2020 BPS basketball season opener. The game, played January 10 at the Condon School in South Boston and broadcast on Boston City TV's Game of the Week, was a tale of two halves: both teams shot poorly through the first two quarters, with Cohasset holding a narrow 21-20 halftime edge. Guard Liam Cunney was named game MVP after finishing with 18 points, nearly all scored in the second half following a halftime adjustment in which head coach Beau Ruggiero — in his 12th season with the Skippers and a 500-plus career-win coach — benched two All-Star starters in favor of reserves Kevin Krumczyk and Noah Jones; the move ignited a 20-4 third-quarter run.
South Boston center Jalen Bing-Wallace, returning to the starting lineup after being benched earlier in the season, produced 12 points, 20 rebounds, and seven blocked shots for the Knights, who dropped to 3-2, while Cohasset improved to 4-1.
