Cody Village Breaks Ground on 76 Affordable Units at Mattapan Commuter Rail Stop

BOSTON — Cody Village breaks ground on 76 permanently affordable units at Mattapan's Cody Ford lot after more than 30 years of vacancy. Mayor Marty Walsh, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, Cardinal Sean O'Malley, and state legislators joined Planning Office for Urban Affairs President Bill Grogan and Caribbean Integration Community Development Executive Director Donald Alexis Tuesday for the ceremony adjacent to the Blue Hill Avenue commuter rail station on the Fairmount Line. Fifteen percent of the units are reserved for residents transitioning out of homelessness.

Bank of America's Michal Chamberland said the bank has committed more than $200 million in construction loans and $120 million in tax credit equity to affordable housing statewide since 2000, with over $325 million invested alongside POUA over the last 20 years. MassHousing's Mark Teeden noted at least six DHCD program funding sources were assembled for the project. Grogan said POUA and CICD plan at least two more affordable housing developments in Mattapan, and Representative Dan Cullinan announced a second project at the Mattapan T station lot is projected at 135 units and a $57 million investment.
