Boston mayor outlines $27.4 million COVID-19 relief effort, mortgage protection expansion, and testing rollout. In a public briefing carried by Boston's community access TV, the mayor announced that the Boston Resiliency Fund had raised $27.4 million from nearly 5,000 donors and distributed more than $13.8 million to 138 organizations, with $14 million additional directed to 19 groups to expand testing to 19 city sites. A $3 million renter relief fund was processing roughly 800 applications, and a $2 million small business fund was on pace to reach more than 500 businesses by end of week.
The mayor said 17 lenders — including newly added Leader Bank and Berkshire Bank — had signed the city's foreclosure prevention agreement, which defers mortgage payments for at least three months. Chief of staff Catherine Burton was named Boston's representative on the governor's 17-member reopening advisory board, which was tasked with producing phased guidance by May 18.
