Boston Public Facilities Commission Awards $3 Million BPS School Facilities Study Contract

BOSTON — July 19, 2026 — Boston's Public Facilities Commission unanimously approved two contract actions totaling more than $3.4 million at its July 19 meeting. The larger action awarded a $2,999,910 design study services contract to DLR Group Inc. to conduct a 16-month programming and facility study of the full Boston Public Schools prekindergarten-through-12 building portfolio, with findings expected to support both a five-to-seven-year and a 20-to-25-year capital expenditure plan. Project Manager Pedro Hernandez told the commission the $300,000 in additional services is included within, not added to, the contract ceiling; Legal Advisor T.T. Lee acknowledged a clerical error in the vote as read — "16 weeks" rather than 16 months — and said a Scrivener's Affidavit would correct the record. The commission also approved a $455,495 amendment to the Design Lab Architects Inc. contract for the Curley Community Center renovation at 1663 Columbia Road in South Boston, covering hazardous material abatement consulting and building envelope services tied to unforeseen conditions found during construction, bringing total additional services for that project to $657,645.84.
