Boston PIC Approves Eversource Roxbury Conduit, Sends Two South Boston Projects to June Hearing

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission unanimously approved a grant of location for Eversource Energy to install roughly 570 feet of underground electrical conduit near Roxbury Crossing, while holding two South Boston projects for a June 10 follow-up hearing. The commission, convened May 27, 2021 by videoconference, cleared the Insta Electric Company d/b/a Eversource petition for 4-inch PVC conduit and associated hardware in Gurney, Tremont, and Station Streets after Dominic Rinaldi of BSC Group confirmed that a pole-mounted reverse current switch cabinet — about 2 feet by 2 feet — is smaller than comparable city installations. A 55-unit, 8,000-square-foot mixed-use development at 267 Old Colony Avenue in South Boston was continued after a commission member flagged that the proposed pedestrian easement may fall short of the five-foot minimum required under the BPDA's Plan: South Boston, directing staff to check with BPDA's Jill Zick before acting. Verizon New England's petition to run 230 feet of conduit to the new 55 Pier 4 Boulevard project was also sent to a June 10 public hearing pending a PE-stamped updated plan. The commission closed by unanimously appointing Transportation Department representative Amy Cording as vice chair.
