Boston's Public Facilities Commission unanimously approved all seven Department of Neighborhood Development votes on its July 22 agenda, advancing affordable housing, a community garden, and a pre-apprentice training center across Roxbury and Dorchester. Chair Catherine Craven presided as the commission accepted a $136,000 Rose Architectural Fellowship grant from Enterprise Community Partners to hire an in-house architectural fellow for two years, approved a land conveyance to Mission Hill Health Movement Inc. for a $100 community garden at 6-8 Gore Street in Roxbury, and designated Norfolk Design and Construction LLC — a minority- and veteran-owned firm — as developer for six new affordable units on Holborn Street. The commission also conveyed 22 Kenilworth Street to Seth McCoy and Miguel Chavez for $150,000 for a historic renovation project with 80 percent AMI rental unit, and designated Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston Inc. for a seven-unit homeownership building on Norfolk Street in Dorchester for $131,000.

The People's Academy Inc. received a 24-month designation for a 49-unit mixed-use development with a pre-apprentice trades training facility on Warren, Quincy, and Glenburn Streets in Roxbury — a project Deputy Director Jessica Boatwright said drew "hundreds, if not thousands" of letters of support including from the full City Council. The final vote approved the long-delayed conveyance of 191 Bowdoin Street in Dorchester to Vietnamese American Initiative for Development Inc. for $100 for a 41-unit affordable rental building with four units set aside for homeless households, with lenders meeting and construction closing targeted for this fall.
