Boston Opens Roxbury Testing Site Capable of 1,000 Tests Per Day

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston opens a free high-capacity COVID-19 testing site at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Roxbury, with plans to add locations in Dorchester and Mattapan. Mayor Michelle Wu announced the site Tuesday alongside Dr. Bisola Ojukwu of the Boston Public Health Commission, saying the facility can test up to 1,000 people per day through CIC Health, with self-administered PCR tests and results within 24 hours. The city's COVID-19 positivity rate has dropped to 26.5 percent — down 5.2 percentage points from the prior week — though adult hospitalizations rose 35 percent and pediatric hospitalizations 56 percent in the same period. Wu also announced a request to the Boston City Council for $5 million in ARPA funds to replenish the Small Business Relief Fund, which Chief Segun Idewu said would support roughly 300 additional businesses; the city has already awarded more than $28 million to over 5,000 small businesses. City employees who have not yet submitted proof of vaccination face unpaid administrative leave beginning January 24, with 17,861 workers in compliance as of Tuesday morning — more than 1,000 more than the prior Monday.
