Boston Lottery Sets November Ballot Order for Eight Mayoral Candidates

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston holds public lottery to set November ballot order for eight mayoral and dozens of council candidates. The city's election department conducted the drawing on July 22, placing candidates' names into a receptacle in alphabetical order before drawing them at random to determine ballot position in each race. The mayoral field includes three sitting City Council members — present City Councilor at Large Andrea Joy Campbell, present District City Councilor Kim M. Janey, and present City Councilor at Large Michelle Wu — along with present State Representative John Santiago, former School Committee member and veteran Robert Capucci, Robert A. Spagnuolo, Anissa Asabi-George, and John F. Barrows. More than three dozen City Council candidates were drawn across at-large seats and Districts 4, 6, 7, and 9, with District 7 drawing the largest single-district field. Liz A. Breeden is the sole incumbent district council candidate identified in the record as seeking re-election in her current seat, District 9.
