Boston Launches "Be Together" Vaccine Verification Policy at Allston-Brighton Small Business Walkthrough

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu previewed the city's "Be Together" vaccine verification policy at a press walkthrough of small businesses along Harvard Avenue and Brighton Avenue in Allston-Brighton, two days before the policy's January 15, 2022, implementation date. The policy requires customers to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter covered indoor businesses including gyms, dance studios, and restaurants. Wu, joined by Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion Shigun Itowu, Deputy Chief Midori Muraka, and Director of Small Business Natalia Ertebay, said the policy was designed to provide consistent city-wide guidance and "not put the burden even more on our entrepreneurs." Itowu noted that businesses could access ongoing relief grants and technical assistance through the Small Business Office at boston.gov. Wu also confirmed she had joined a coalition including Vida Urbana in support of a bill before the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Housing to lift the statewide ban on rent stabilization.
