Update 2026-07-22 clip6231 · Meeting of July 22, 2026

Boston confirms three resident COVID-19 cases linked to the Biogen leadership conference held the prior week at the Long Wharf Marriott. Mayor Martin Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker appeared jointly with state and city health officials to announce that two women and one man, all in their 40s and all self-isolating at home, tested presumptive positive after being identified by Biogen as close contacts of a previously confirmed case; a fourth Boston resident case was anticipated pending CDC confirmation. Statewide, Secretary Mary Lou Sudders reported one confirmed case and seven presumptive positives spread across Suffolk, Norfolk, and Middlesex counties, including two additional Biogen-linked cases in Norfolk County.

The Commonwealth had formally requested personal protective equipment from the federal Strategic National Stockpile, and the state public health lab, the sole authorized testing site in Massachusetts, was processing roughly 40 to 50 tests per day with a 24-hour turnaround, with FDA authorization of commercial labs described as forthcoming. Walsh said the Boston Marathon and St. Patrick's Day parade had not been canceled, with decisions to follow medical guidance "day by day."
