Boston Commits $50 Million in Federal Recovery Funds on Floyd Anniversary

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston announces $50 million in American Rescue Plan funds on the first anniversary of George Floyd's death. Speaking at a City Hall press event, Boston's acting mayor released the first tranche of what she described as a $500 million, five-year federal package, broken down as $10 million for public health and vaccination delivery, $10 million for hardest-hit communities including affordable housing and child care, $14.5 million for food access, arts, and economic recovery, and $15.5 million for small business relief. She also announced an equitable recovery coordinating committee to oversee the fund's distribution and said City Hall would resume walk-in services five days a week beginning July 12. Dorchester entrepreneur Shanita Clark, owner of Salvage Roots, was cited as an example of the small businesses the relief programs are designed to serve.
