Boston City Hall Hosts Annual Three Kings Day Celebration With Music and Remarks

Boston City Hall marked Three Kings Day with music, diplomatic remarks, and a Rosca de Reyes reception. Chief of Staff Martin Martinez stood in for Mayor Martin Walsh, who was attending a funeral, and read the mayor's prepared remarks noting that Latinos make up over 20 percent of Boston's population and "account for almost all of our city's population growth in the last 40 years." Jesus Garcia, the Mayor's Office Latino Liaison, emceed the event, which included traditional villancico performances by Puerto Rican Boston-based artist Jorge Arce and cultural performer Veronica Robles. Rita Maciel, Deputy Consul of Mexico, represented the Mexican Consulate and explained the origins and symbolism of the Rosca de Reyes tradition.

Robles announced that her Veronica Robles Cultural Center has relocated to the Old Public Library, drawing more than 400 people to its inaugural event there the prior Saturday.
