Boston CCE Program Offers All-Renewable Option Cheaper Than Eversource Starting January

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston's community choice electricity program now offers 100 percent renewable energy cheaper than Eversource's new rate, officials announced July 22. Mayor Michelle Wu and Chief of Energy, Environment, and Open Space Reverend Mariama White-Hammond said all three CCE rate tiers will cost less than Eversource's basic service beginning January 1, when the utility's new rates take effect at what officials called a 15-year high. The 100 percent renewable CCE tier will run 13 cents per kilowatt-hour compared to Eversource's new rate of 15 cents — a difference White-Hammond put at roughly $27 per month for a typical residential customer. Sam Montagna of Green Roots said more than 40 percent of low-income residents in East Boston are currently enrolled with competitive third-party suppliers, which the state Attorney General's office has found disproportionately target low-income, immigrant, and elderly residents in neighborhoods including Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, East Boston, and Hyde Park.
