Boston breaks ground on Ruggles Street improvements extending Roxbury corridor investment

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston breaks ground on Ruggles Street corridor improvements in Roxbury. City Engineer Paraj Jaisingh and Mayor Kim Janey marked the start of the Ruggles Street Project on July 22, describing it as an extension of the approximately $3 million Madison Park Street Improvements Project completed roughly two years earlier at the same site. The project will add walkable sidewalks, traffic calming measures, bicycle accommodations, new streetlights, and trees; no total project cost or completion date was announced. McCourt Construction is the contractor, with consulting firm GPI handling design and Zach Wassmuth of the Public Works Department serving as project manager. State Representative Chyna Tyler attended, and artist Jenny Sabin was named as creator of a series of long-term public art installations along the corridor, with Team PLAY developing a separate art project at the adjacent DeWitt Playground.
