Boston Approves Easements to Advance $1.2 Million Fenway Multi-Use Path

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston Public Facilities Commission clears easements for $1.2 million Fenway bike and pedestrian path. The commission voted unanimously on August 4, 2021, to approve an order of taking covering two private easements needed to advance phase one of the Fenway Multi-Use Path, a project connecting the Fenway neighborhood to the city's Emerald Necklace and broader greenway network. Charlotte Fleetwood, senior planner with the Boston Transportation Department, and Melissa Ryan, project manager at AECOM, told commissioners that MassDOT plans to advertise the project for construction bids on August 21. The easements cover a 1,725-square-foot permanent shared-use-path easement donated by Boston Children's Hospital at 819 Beacon Street and a 285-square-foot temporary construction easement on an IQHQ REIT parcel at Brookline Avenue and Burlington Avenue. Commissioner Larry Mimola, who made the motion to approve after questioning who would handle long-term path maintenance, called it "a great project." Construction is expected to take one year, funded through the federal Congestion and Air Quality Mitigation Fund.
