BHA and Wynn Companies Open 52 Mixed-Income Homes on East Boston Waterfront

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston Housing Authority opens 52 mixed-income waterfront homes in East Boston, the first majority-affordable development on the Boston waterfront in roughly 15 years. BHA Administrator and CEO Kate Bennett and Mayor Kim Janey headlined the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Harbor Walk Residences and Harbor 125, a redevelopment of the former Clippership public housing site. The project includes 22 deeply affordable rental units and 30 homeownership units, 14 of which are deed-restricted, with a workforce three-bedroom unit listed just under $400,000 while comparable market-rate units in the same building sold for $942,000. MassHousing Executive Director Crystal Kornegay confirmed the agency's $11 million investment and cited a governor's proposed $1 billion state housing bill, half of which would fund homeownership programs. Former resident Greg Zabir Ahmed, who immigrated from Ethiopia and spent years in a one-bedroom Brighton apartment before living at Clippership, told the crowd that three of his children graduated from Boston-area universities while in BHA housing, with a fourth entering Tufts medical school next month.
