Asian CDC Announces 110 Affordable Units and First Permanent Chinatown Library Branch

BOSTON — July 20, 2026 — Asian Community Development Corporation marks 30 years with Chinatown library announcement and new housing project. At its first in-person Dim Sum Breakfast since the pandemic, held July 20 at the Pao Arts Center in Chinatown, ACDC Executive Director Angie Liu announced the organization has received the developer designation for Parcel R1, a parking lot at Tyler, Hudson, and Holland Streets, where it expects to build approximately 110 affordable apartments and condominiums along with a permanent Boston Public Library branch — the first in Chinatown in nearly 50 years. The organization also reported completing the February acquisition of 64-68 Beach Street, adjacent to the Chinatown Gate, preserving roughly two dozen residents and the New Golden Gate restaurant. Mayor Michelle Wu attended and pledged continued city partnership. ACDC's mutual aid collective will distribute an additional $300,000 this year to low-income Asian families still experiencing pandemic-related hardship, following $500,000 distributed in 2020-21. The 2022 Inspiration Award went to Project Restore Us, which raised $1 million and delivered more than 750 tons of food during the pandemic; the inaugural Volunteer Award went to Harvard researcher John Lien; and the Neil Chin Community Service Award went to White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha.
